Why I Created ‘Embrace the Layover’

Why I Created ‘Embrace the Layover’

by Marvin Scholz

I started blogging about two year ago. Back then all I wanted was for my voice to be heard. I wanted to give advice to people who would listen. I knew I had good content to publish. I knew that I knew things that a lot of people didn’t. When I first created the website, I had no idea where this journey would take me. At that particular time, I was on a journey myself, literally. Embrace the Layover was created at Charleston International Airport during a 3-hour layover on my way to Frankfurt, Germany. I knew back then what I still know now; I wanted to share my love for travel, my love for living, with the rest of the world.

2 years and 22 countries later, that statement is as relevant as ever. ETL is a message that doesn’t end with traveling. It doesn’t end with flight delays, or missing a connection, or 4-hour layovers. Embrace the Layover is a way of life. It’s a way to look at life and say: “I am going to enjoy this day today for no other reason than it being TODAY”. It’s living in the moment.

Not counting down until the next vacation, or until you get that pay-raise, or hoping and waiting until you graduate. Embrace the Layover is putting all these things aside and just being grateful for today. Grateful for being able to live every moment of your life.

We live in a society where everyone is counting down to something. Everyone is waiting for the next occasion. Stop waiting to enjoy your life, live every moment like its your last. I know it’s a cliché thing to say, but it really boils down to that.

Until recently I was the same way, I counted the months and weeks until my next trip, my next concert. Always waiting for the next big thing. And that is exactly how your life passes you by.

Sit back and realize that today, will never happen again.

When you adapt that way of looking at life, you will realize how fortunate you really are.

That is what ETL is all about. It’s about living in the moment, every moment, embracing life.

Your destination will come, that job promotion will happen, you will graduate, and you’re going to find the person of your dreams, everything will fall into place. Stop rushing things.

That is the reason why I created the clothing brand ETL, it’s about being proud of living in the moment, and loving it. I worked very hard for this, and I hope you love wearing my brand, as much as I loved creating it.

By wearing my merchandise, you’re wearing a piece of me.
